The 2001 "Luna" update site for Windows 98 through Server 2003.

You'll need Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer (5.5 or 6.0 recommended). Confirm your system is listed below, then launch the V4 site to scan for updates.

About this version

Released alongside Windows XP in 2001, V4 adopted the famous "Luna" theme and by 2002 supported Windows 98, Me and 2000. It replaced proprietary formats with an XML/ASP inventory system, dropped Windows 95 and NT 4.0, and introduced the Windows Update Catalog, the ancestor of today's Microsoft Update Catalog.

Known issues

x64 (AMD64): the ActiveX control won't install until you add the Unicode certificate. V4 finds no updates on x64, but the Windows Update Catalog still works.
Windows XP SP3: no updates are shown, because V4 only covers up to XP SP2. Move to V5 or V6 to keep updating.
Windows 98 / 98 SE / Me: few or no updates due to missing multilanguage inventories. Check C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate and run the Inventory Checker first.
